Riveting without being gory or overly heavy, the short film "Wife Beater" is a platform for discussion of real life domestic violence. It provides a surreal look at a domestic disturbance followed by interviews from professionals who will compare and contrast this dramatization with reality. The film also provides contact information for assistance.
Focusing on the thoughts and emotions of the victim, this film follows a woman who lives with a tank-top shirt, a.k.a “wife beater,” who abuses her physically and emotionally. Although the tank-top does not talk to her or move, the victim reacts to it as though it were active, and in doing so invokes the viewer to validate the victim’s plight. The power of the film is that it puts viewers almost entirely in the head of the victim. The film also includes interviews from three survivors of Domestic Abuse, two women and one man, featuring their experiences and their thoughts about the film. Watch the whole film for stinger. If you or someone you know is experiencing Domestic Abuse, please contact The National Domestic Violence Hotline, http://www.thehotline.org, or call 1-800-799-7233.
